Aggregate Testing

At WesTest, our laboratory is professionally equipped and AASHTO accredited in order to accommodate your aggregate testing needs. Our aggregate testing and construction material testing services are thorough, extensive, and result driven. We are able to verify fill-application materials being used in sub bases, base courses, riprap, asphalt, Portland cement, and other concrete mix designs. It is our goal to ensure that every project meets, if not exceeds, the concrete standards set for the industry.

From a basic gradation analysis to the determination of alkali silica reactivity of aggregate in concrete, we provide the technical expertise and equipment to assist in getting the correct material and the correct application.

Including Soundness, L.A. Abrasion, Micro-Deval Abrasion, Specific Gravity and Absorption, our laboratory is equipped with an adjustable jaw crusher which allows us to take pit run aggregate and process it to the desired size for aggregate durability and physical property testing. This capability allows our clients to evaluate the quality of an aggregate prior to bidding or deciding on a potential source.

Our engineers and technicians performing the aggregate tests are thoroughly trained and certified by the appropriate agencies. The equipment and procedures utilized in our construction material testing services are inspected by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory.

Some of our aggregate tests include:

  • Sieve analysis
  • Loss by washing
  • Sodium Sulfate Soundness
  • Los Angeles Abrasion
  • Specific Gravity and Absorption
  • Organic impurities
  • Moisture Density Relationship
  • Atterberg limits
  • Coarse and Fine Aggregate Angularity
